A fire has razed a commercial warehouse, belonging to a local entrepreneur, Shafa’atu Sulaiman, in the Barakallahu area of Gusau, Zamfara State, resulting in the loss of property valued at ₦15 million.
The fire was first spotted around 8:00 p.m. by a passing motorcyclist who noticed thick smoke emanating from the roof of the structure located near the Command Secondary School.
The disaster was mitigated by the anonymous motorcycle rider who quickly raised an alarm for residents to alert the fire service before the building was completely engulfed.
The Zamfara State Fire Service arrived quickly, but residents had to force the doors open to grant them access to the fire.
While the Zamfara State Fire Service was lauded for arriving at the scene even before the owner, the fire destroyed nearly all contents in the warehouse.
According to reports after investigation, the major cause of the fire outbreak is attributed to a faulty electrical connection in a section of the warehouse.
The Executive Director of the state fire service, Abdullahi Jibo, confirmed that while the damage is a great financial loss to the victim, no casualties or injuries were recorded in the incident.
