‎At least nine people were killed on Saturday, December 27, following a series of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The explosives, suspected to have been planted by bandits, at three different locations along the Dansadau-Magami Road.

‎Residents believe the attacks are attempting to stall the road construction project recently awarded by Governor Dauda Lawal and to retaliate for a breakdown in negotiations between bandits and the Magami community on Friday. According to reports, bandits on Friday were denied permission to sell rustled cattle at Magami Market, which many residents alleged was what necessitated the attack. The IEDs are seen as a bloody tax for this denial.

‎The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident but has remained cautious regarding the final death toll.

‎Details later…
