At least eight people lost their lives on Thursday in a series of deadly collisions involving trucks along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s Kara Bridge, causing severe traffic chaos in the area. The incidents involved multiple vehicles, including trucks and trailers, and led to explosions.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the accidents occurred around the Kara Bridge inward Mowe, involving a truck and a container-laden trailer that caught fire after colliding.

Additionally, one truck spilled its contents of cartons of biscuits across the road, creating more hazards. A third trailer ran into the bridge barrier, plunging into the river below, which blocked the entire route and caused disruption to traffic flow.

The multiple crashes resulted in three vehicles in flames and several casualties. According to LASTMA, the incidents led to serious congestion, with traffic spilling over to adjoining routes, impacting hundreds of commuters.

‎Our team responded swiftly to the scene, but the extent of destruction and loss of lives was overwhelming. We urge drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic regulations, especially on busy expressways like this – LASTMA spokesperson

The agency also warned about reckless driving and urged motorists to remain vigilant, particularly during this ’ember’ period
