The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended an 11-man syndicate suspected of armed robbery on Sha’iskawa-Charanchi and Katsina-Kankia-Kano roads, ending months of fear for motorists on these routes.
According to Katsina Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, the arrests were made following a credible tip-off on Sunday morning. The syndicate, composed of young men aged between 21 and 35, had been notorious for blocking highways and robbing unsuspecting travelers.
Operatives intercepted a syndicate member attempting to dispose of stolen goods, which led to the capture of the remaining suspects.
Investigations recovered 80 wristwatches, nine cellphones, and a knife as evidence of their criminal activities.
The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged in court. The police command has urged the public to continue providing useful information to aid in maintaining peace and security. This successful operation offers hope for safer travel along Katsina’s highways, which is a step forward in combating crime in the region.
