Ekiti State Police have arrested a man suspected of causing the death of his wife, Modupe Alasin, following a brutal assault after she arrived late at their farm in Efon-Alaaye Local Government Area.
According to authorities, the victim’s spouse grew enraged when Modupe failed to meet him at the agricultural plot on time. Eyewitnesses reported hearing her cries and pleas as the husband subjected her to a violent beating. The distressing outburst continued despite neighbors’ awareness of the escalating abuse.
A source within the police department revealed that after inflicting repeated blows, the man compelled his wife to fetch water from a nearby stream. Tragically, she collapsed and died during the ordeal.
A nearby farmworker who wished to remain anonymous added,
We heard her screams from a distance. It was horrendous. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially by their own family
Police have launched a thorough investigation and are gathering statements to understand the full circumstances behind this devastating incident.
SP Sunday Abutu, the police command’s Public Relations Officer, said;
We have apprehended the suspect, and he is currently in custody. Our priority is to ensure justice is served while thoroughly examining all evidence
Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the fatal occurrence, condemning domestic violence and urging swift legal action. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and taking decisive measures against perpetrators of domestic abuse.
