The Imo State chapter of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lambasted Governor Uzodima for lavishing N2.1 billion on a Muslim pilgrimage hosting prodigal party for the airlifting of 315 pilgrims in Sam Mbakwe Airport on the 9th of May.
Hon. Lancelot Obiaku, the party’s State Publicity Secretary released a sstatement yesterday marking his actions as a failure to handle insecurity in areas like Orlu, Orsu and Okigwe. The party cited an attack by gunmen on May 8 in Onuimo LGA, that left 20 people killed, some kidnapped and 22 burnt vehicles with another attack that occured in Ngor Okpala, where 1 was killed and 26 travellers were kidnapped. The party argued that the funds, could have cleared civil staff pensions, built tech centers for Youths. As his statement read, “The menace of suspected Fulani terrorists… should have spurred the governor into swift action,”
The State Publicity emphasized the criticism not to be an attack on Islamic faithfuls stating, “While the Imo PDP is not opposed to religious inclusion, there is no justification for the government to squander as much as N2.1 billion… for 315 individuals,” while he acknowledged the state’s predominantly Christian demographic, he called on residents of Imo state to hold the administration accountable for insecurity, poverty levels and lack of basic amenities, calling out governor Uzodinma’s prioritizing “frivolous ceremonies”.
