The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected suppliers of illicit substances and rescued 17 minors found abusing rubber solution in the state metropolis.

Officers of the Violent Crimes Response Unit of the Command carried out the arrests following a tip-off from a vigilant resident. Eight of the minors were initially apprehended on November 5 at Adamu Jumba Street, while a follow-up operation at Wunti Flyover led to the rescue of nine others.

Based on intelligence gathered from the rescued minors, police officers traced the local supply chain and arrested the two principal suspects on November 6. The suspects were identified as 41-year-old Chimezie Nathan of Yelwan Makaranta and 25-year-old Sani Ali of Muda Lawan Market, from whom 12 packs of rubber solution were recovered.

The Bauchi State Police Command says the rescued minors have been taken into protective custody while investigations are ongoing to dismantle the supply chain.

The States Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, restates the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety, and also commended the intervention of the good Samaritan and warned against the exploitation of minors.

“No child should be exposed to drugs. No criminal should profit from destroying the future of our children. We will continue to pursue, arrest and prosecute all those who supply drugs to minors, and we will ensure that every rescued child is protected and reunited with family.”

The police command has advised the public to stay calm, assuring residents that operations are ongoing to identified criminal hotspots within the metropolis. The police are currently working to identify and reunite the rescued minors with their parents and guardians.
