The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of a suspect, Sanusi Dankaka, for allegedly threatening to publish nude photographs and videos of the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The presiding judge, Justice Salim Ibrahim, issued the remand order on Monday after the Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned the defendant on a two-count charge bordering on cybercrime.
According to the charge sheet marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026 and filed on October 22, the suspect claimed to possess explicit content of the governor and threatened to circulate it on social media.
The DSS prosecuting counsel, Yusuf Afegbua, told the court that Dankaka and other accomplices currently at large attempted to distribute the malicious material through a Facebook account identified as Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya.
The secret police stated that the alleged offences were committed earlier in October within Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The prosecution stated that the threat was false and deliberately calculated to ignite public condemnation, and to inflict injury to the Kano State governor.
The DSS informed the court that the defendant’s conduct contravened Section 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended.
The offence is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same legislation.
When the charges were read during Monday’s proceedings, the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of cybercrime preferred against him by the Department of State Services.
Following the legal submissions, Justice Ibrahim granted the DSS’s request, directing that the defendant be kept in the custody of the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until December 7 for the commencement of the trial.
