Kano State Assembly member Zubairu Hamza Masu defected from NNPP to APC, citing leadership crises and factionalism within his former party.
Zubairu Hamza Masu, a Kano State House of Assembly member representing Sumaila Constituency, defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, May 12, 2025. The announcement was made during a plenary session, following the reading of his defection letter by Speaker Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore.
Masu attributed his departure to a leadership crisis and multiple factions within the NNPP, naming conflicting state and national leaders like Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa, Ahmed Ajuji, and Agbo Major. He pledged full loyalty to the APC leadership at all levels, citing court litigations stifling the NNPP.
The defection follows recent moves by other NNPP figures, including Senator Kawu Sumaila and six Kwankwasiyya groups, to the APC, welcomed by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin. The shift has sparked debates about NNPP’s stability in Ka
Masu’s exit is seen as a blow to the NNPP, with APC leaders claiming the party’s influence in Kano is waning ahead of the 2027 elections.n.
