The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released a public advisory on Monday, May 12, 2025, alerting Nigerians to fraudulent contracts and grants being circulated under the bank’s name. The statement, shared through official CBN channels, seeks to safeguard the public from deceptive scams.
The CBN made it clear that it does not provide contracts or grants to individuals, nor does it authorize third parties to collect fees for such programs. According to the bank, scammers are misusing its reputation to lure victims with promises of fake financial benefits or projects, often requiring upfront payments.
Many Nigerians have voiced concerns, with some recounting encounters with suspicious messages. The CBN encouraged the public to confirm any information directly through its official platforms and to report suspected fraud to the appropriate authorities.
Reaffirming its dedication to transparency, the CBN stressed the importance of remaining vigilant, as these fraudulent schemes continue to target unsuspecting individuals nationwide.
