On Saturday, May 10, 2025, governors and traditional rulers from Nigeria’s northern states convened in Kaduna for a high-level meeting focused on addressing the region’s pressing challenges, including persistent insecurity, widespread poverty, and the alarming rate of out-of-school children.

The strategic meeting took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House and was chaired by the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya. Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, served as the chief host and delivered the opening address.

In attendance were governors from Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, and several other northern states, alongside a distinguished assembly of traditional leaders. These included the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Bamalli; the Etsu Nupe; and the Emirs of Zamfara, Bauchi, Katsina, Ilorin, and Keffi, among others.

Deliberations centered on improving regional security coordination, reforming the education system, and implementing long-term strategies for socioeconomic development. The meeting emphasized the importance of collaboration between political and traditional institutions to restore peace, stability, and prosperity to northern Nigeria.
