Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a convicted drug dealer and rescued a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly exploited as a courier to distribute illicit substances across the state.

The interception was executed by the command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) on October 26, 2026. Detectives apprehended the minor, identified as Samuel Nkemakolan Kosi, at about 11:00 am while he was attempting to deliver suspected methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, to a buyer.

During interrogation, the minor confessed to acting on the instructions of a 22-year-old convicted drug dealer, Samuel Ogochukwu. Following this intelligence, detectives quickly tracked down and arrested the principal suspect at his location.

After his arrest, officers raided his residence and shop, uncovering a massive cache of illicit drugs. The recovered substances included 3.5 grammes of methamphetamine, 17 sachets of 100mg tramadol capsules, five sachets of 300mg pregabalin capsules, and seven sachets of diazepam.

Police investigators also recovered 12 Exol tablets, two wraps of a substance known locally as Yellow Boys, and one sachet of Shine Shine Leather.

Upon questioning, Ogochukwu admitted to receiving his drug supplies through commercial waybills originating from Onitsha, Anambra State.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the arrest in a press release on Tuesday, stating that the command had already taken steps to protect the minor.

“The 14-year-old minor has been handled in line with juvenile best practices and will be reunited with his family after counselling, while the principal suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation,” SP Habib.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the VCRU operatives for their doggedness and result-oriented policing. He stated that securing four major drug busts and convictions within ten days sends a strong warning to criminal elements that there is no hiding place in the state.

The Commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety, urging residents to remain vigilant as investigations are ongoing to completely dismantle the drug trafficking syndicate.
