The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State that voters will use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to resist any form of electoral intimidation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The opposition party made this declaration on Saturday during an expanded senatorial meeting in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area, organized to unveil the party’s candidates for the State and National Assembly elections in the Edo Central Senatorial District, while also receiving new defectors from the APC, PDP, and New Democratic Congress (NDC).
During the meeting, ADC leaders reacted to a recent viral video allegedly showing Edo APC chairman Jarrett Tenebe referencing the use of an AK-47.
Edo ADC Chairman Tony Alile dismissed the threat, describing it as an empty attempt to scare voters away from the polls. He called on law enforcement to investigate the video, adding that true power lies with the people, not firearms.
“The weapon ADC has is 200 times bigger and smarter than the AK-47 the other man mentioned, and that weapon is called the PVC…If you are tired of the hunger and suffering in the land, I don’t need to tell you to use your PVC as your weapon against this government”, Alile.
Former governorship aspirant Barrister Kenneth Imansuagbon, who represented ADC National Leader Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor, also addressed the crowd. He stated that the massive turnout at the meeting is a clear sign that Edo residents are frustrated with how the current administration is handling the economy and facilitating infrastructure development.
Imansuagbon also predicted that Governor Monday Okpebholo would face defeat in Edo Central.
“What we have is not the guns. They have said they have the AK-47, but we have the people. With our PVC, APC will be sent packing. If they think they can rig the election, they are living in a fool’s paradise.”
He added that the target of the APC to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 is nothing but a political smokescreen.
