A suspected drug dealer, identified as Uzairu Kuda, was killed during a police operation in Sabuwar Anguwa area of Katsina State, at approximately 10:00 PM on December 27, when the suspect’s gang members attempted to intercept his arrest.
Kuda was a key member of the Kauraye miscreant group, known for local crimes and drug trafficking in the state capital.
Operatives of the Central Market Surveillance Team apprehended Kuda and recovered dozens of illicit substances, including Indian hemp, Pregabalin tablets, and Colorado.
Upon his arrest, Kuda raised an alarm, prompting his gang members to attack the police. The assailants attacked the police vehicle with stones, smashing the rear screen.
During the confrontation, Kuda reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the second-in-command, ASP Ibrahim Yusuf, in the neck. In self-defense, the officer discharged his firearm. Kuda was rushed to the General Hospital Katsina, where he was later pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, ASP Ibrahim Yusuf, sustained serious neck injury and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The corpse of the suspect was later released to the family for burial.
The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident on Tuesday morning, emphasizing that investigation is underway to apprehend the fleeing gang members and to make them face the full wrath of the law. He urged the public to be vigilant and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
