President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, in order to complete the list of diplomatic appointments.
The list includes several political figures, notably former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Mahmud Yakubu and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode.
The nominations, sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Sunday, comprise 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors. This second batch follows an initial list of three nominees sent last week.
The non-career list features several former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, former First Ladies Erelu Angela Adebayo, Fatima Florence Ajimobi, and political critic Reno Omokri, Jimoh Ibrahim.
The career list features 15 experienced foreign service officers. There are a total of 10 women across both lists (four career, six non-career).
The nominees are slated for postings to countries critical to Nigeria’s economic and political interests, including China, South Korea, Canada, the UAE, and South Africa, as well as multilateral bodies like the United Nations and the African Union.
