Nigeria eyes 2026 FIFA World Cup spot through African Playoffs

Following a commanding 4-0 win over Benin Republic, the Super Eagles of NIgeria still face a playoff hurdle to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The African Playoffs are scheduled for November 13-16, with the venue yet to be announced by CAF.

‎Nigeria is among four African nations that have advanced to the upcoming mini-tournament, which will decide the continent’s final qualifier for the World Cup to be hosted by Canada, the USA, and Mexico.

‎The playoffs will feature semi-finals and a final, pairing Nigeria against Gabon and Cameroon versus DR Congo.Matchups are determined by FIFA rankings, where the highest-ranked team faces the lowest-ranked opponent.

‎The winner of the playoff final will proceed to the Inter-Confederation Playoffs in March 2026, competing against teams from five continents for one of the last two World Cup spots.
