The Bauchi State Police Command has opened an investigation into the death of 24-year-old Fatima Salihu Mohammed, who went missing after leaving her home to buy groceries on September 24, 2025.

‎Fatima Salihu Mohammed was reported missing on September 25 by her father, Salihu Mohammed Chimo, after she failed to return from a grocery trip to Birshin Fulani. Police quickly assembled a team of detectives equipped with surveillance experts and technology to locate her.

‎On Monday, a distress call was received from the village head of Birshin Fulani, relaying information from a local farmer, Bashar Adamu, who discovered a foul odor coming from a maize farm on the Federal Polytechnic Staff Quarters grounds. Upon investigation, Adamu found the decomposing remains of a female, which the police later identified as Fatima Salihu Mohammed.

‎Police officers led by CSP Yahaya Yunusa cordoned off the scene and confirmed her identity. Her body was found beside the bags and groceries she initially went out to purchase.

‎The remains were moved to the Federal Polytechnic clinic, where a medical practitioner confirmed her death. Her family has since taken custody of the remains for burial arrangements.
