The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) concluded its two-day meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on August 23, 2025, warning that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) lacks a clear vision and is destined to face overwhelming rejection by Nigerians in the upcoming 2027 elections.

‎At the end of their seventh assembly this year, held at the Government House in Gusau, the PDP governors expressed serious concerns about the country’s deteriorating security situation and the gradual erosion of democratic principles under the APC administration. They also shared insights on efforts underway to reposition their party and gear up for the imminent national convention scheduled for November.

‎In a statement released by the forum’s chairman, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed, the governors praised the unwavering commitment of PDP members who have remained loyal despite intense political intimidation and coercion from the current federal government during recent bye-elections. This display of perseverance, shows the deep-rooted grassroots support the party continues to enjoy.

‎The gathering emphasized the need for all PDP supporters, as well as citizens at large, to uphold the party’s foundational ideals, regardless of increasing pressure from the governing party. The forum described the ruling APC as lacking both an agenda and a future, labeling its tactics as desperate efforts destined for failure.

‎Reiterating their allegiance to the resolutions from the 101st National Executive Committee meeting earlier this year, the governors called upon members to resist any attempts aimed at disrupting the November party convention.

‎The forum applauded the Zamfara State government for its proactive strategy in tackling insecurity locally, contrasting it with their condemnation of rising violent incidents in several other states, including Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue. They strongly urged the federal authorities to prioritize safeguarding citizens’ lives and property more effectively.

‎Moreover, the PDP leaders denounced the over-militarized approach seen during the recent bye-elections, which featured widespread irregularities, vote buying, and violence. They appealed to Nigerians to vigilantly guard their votes in future polls.

‎The Zamfara meeting was attended by notable governors besides the host, Dauda Lawal, and Forum chairman Bala Mohammed. Present were Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun), illustrating a broad coalition within the party.

‎ The forum’s unified standpoint shows a determined push to regain power and address the challenges facing Nigeria before the 2027 general elections.
