In a statement issued from Government House, Governor Mutfwang described the appointment as “richly deserved” and a national recognition of Prof. Dakas’s towering contributions to Nigeria’s legal and governance frameworks.

The Governor lauded President Tinubu for entrusting the critical task of legal reform to a man he called “a beacon of intellectual excellence and professional integrity.” He said Prof. Dakas’s appointment underscores a lifetime devoted to advancing justice, rule of law, and democratic principles.

“A fountain of knowledge and a legal icon, Prof. Dakas has made indelible marks in legal scholarship, constitutional reform, and the development of Nigeria’s justice system,” Mutfwang noted.

He recalled Prof. Dakas’s distinguished service as a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Plateau State, where his reforms in the criminal justice system remain benchmarks of effective public service. The Governor also highlighted his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Jos, describing him as a mentor and role model to a generation of legal professionals.

Citing Prof. Dakas’s First Class Honours in Law from the University of Jos and his prolific body of work in International Law, Human Rights, and Constitutionalism, Governor Mutfwang said the scholar’s contributions have influenced governance policies not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

He praised Prof. Dakas’s visionary leadership, resilience, and lifelong commitment to justice and equity, describing him as “an embodiment of integrity, inclusion, and excellence.”

“The appointment of Prof. Dakas heralds a new chapter of strategic legal reforms vital to Nigeria’s national transformation,” the Governor said.

On behalf of the government and people of Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang also congratulated Professor Fatima Alkali and Dr. Uchenna Okorocha on their confirmation as Commissioners of the Law Reform Commission. He prayed for divine wisdom and strength for all appointees as they take on this pivotal national assignment.
