Troops of the Nigerian Army have dismantled multiple terrorist camps linked to the Lakurawa armed group in Sokoto State, neutralising several fighters in a gun battle. The clearance operations also resulted in the recovery of arms and operational motorcycles used by the terrorists.

The operation, executed on Tuesday by troops of Sector 2 under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, targeted criminal enclaves across Alela, Bilange, and Kandam villages. The forces eventually made contact with the criminal elements inside Waria Forest in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the success of the joint operations, the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, stated that the troops pursued the retreating fighters deep into the forest.

“During the ensuing firefight, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest. The troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them, while further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the camps and associated support structures.”

After the successful operation, the military recovered a cache of arms and five motorcycles. According to the Theatre Command, troops are currently maintaining a strong operational presence in the area to conduct clearance operations and deny the armed groups any safe havens.

The military urged residents in surrounding communities to support the ongoing operations by providing credible and timely intelligence on suspicious movements.
