A funeral service in Guatemala took a different turn when a 15-year-old girl, believed by her family to have passed away, regained consciousness inside her coffin and sat upright before mourners.
The teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, reportedly woke up eight hours after her sudden collapse during a wake held at her family home in El Jocote, a rural village in Guatemala.

Her mother, Lesvia Ríos, was leaning over the coffin to grieve when she noticed physical movement inside the casket and immediately alerted her relatives.
“When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window and she was moving, she was waking up and suddenly she sat up.”
After the discovery, relatives assisted the teenager out of the casket and provided her with water as bewildered mourners expressed shock and relief.
The father of the girl, Abraham Ixcotoyac, who is an evangelical pastor revealed that the teenager collapsed while being conveyed to a medical facility for treatment. After checking her condition and failing to detect a pulse or signs of breathing, the family concluded she had passed away and immediately abandoned any medical evaluation.
“I saw that she was no longer breathing and I couldn’t feel her pulse on her wrists. It was a very difficult situation for me. She did not go to hospital”, Ixcotoyac.
The teenager, while recounting her experience before losing consciousness, stated that she felt severe chest pain before blacking out. She is currently conscious and recuperating at home as the incident continues to ignite reactions globally.
