At least 20 people lost their lives on Friday evening in a terrible motor accident along Hawan Kibo bend in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The accident happened around 5:00 PM when a commercial vehicle descending the steep hill suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and crash along the notorious bend.
According to a report by The PUNCH, Moses Gyang, an eyewitness who witnessed how the tragic event unfolded recalled seeing the vehicle lose control while descending the hill, with people shouting desperately for help before rescue teams arrived.
Dawn Herald gathered from reports that officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) quickly arrived at the scene for emergency rescue operations and transport injured survivors to nearby hospitals.
Confirming the casualties, the Plateau State FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Adelaja Ogungbemi, stated that 20 people died on the spot.
He advised motorists to always inspect their vehicles thoroughly before embarking on trips, particularly when navigating sharp corners and hills.
