Police in Adamawa State have launched a manhunt for four suspects after a local tea seller was beaten to death during a dispute over a ₦50 payment in Yola.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the incident occurred at a popular spot in Nassarawa Quarters, Yola North Local Government Area, where the victim, Muhammad Auwal Idris, was attending to customers.
The dispute started when a member of a group ordered a cup of tea worth ₦50. After being served, the customer refused to pay, which made Idris demand for his money.
The dispute turned violent as members of the group gang-up and physically assaulted the vendor, inflicting severe injuries on him before fleeing the scene.
The brother of the victim, Aliyu Idris, reported the attack at the Doubeli Divisional Police Headquarters on September 28. Police officers dispatched to the spot found Muhammad lying unconscious and immediately rushed him to a nearby health facility, where a doctor on duty certified him dead.
The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, stated that preliminary investigations have established the identities of four main suspects involved.
According to SP Nguroje, the suspects are currently at large, and the police teams are actively working to track them down, arrest them, and bring them to justice.
