Nigerian business tycoon Femi Otedola met with President Bola Tinubu in Paris on Monday night for a private dinner, where he publicly backed the president’s economic direction.
Otedola shared news of the engagement on Tuesday morning through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, posting a photograph of himself alongside President Tinubu in France.
“At a private dinner in Paris yesterday evening with His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose bold and forward-thinking reforms have put our economy firmly on a path of sustainable growth…I remain proud of you, Mr. President!”, Otedola.
During the dinner, Otedola commended economic policies of the president, stating that recent reforms have helped stabilize the economy and rebuild the confidence of investors. He made mentioned of key financial indicators, including top Nigerian companies making it onto the FTSE Russell Frontier 50 Index and the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) reaching historic highs.
He also stated that Nigeria’s foreign reserves currently stand at around $55 billion, with a stable foreign exchange market that is attracting fresh foreign direct investment.
The Paris dinner comes as President Tinubu wraps up an extended trip to Europe. The president departed Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation in London before traveling to France. While in Paris, Tinubu has held business discussions, including meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and business leaders to explore investments in the digital and creative sectors of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed that President Tinubu will return to Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day events on October 1.
