The National Assembly is upgrading its digital operations to translate Nigerian laws into Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, and other indigenous languages while building a dedicated mobile app and real-time bills tracker for the public.
The Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, Mr. Henry Nwawuba, made this announcement on Monday during the opening of the 2026 National Assembly Library Week in Abuja.
The legislature is building an upgraded e-library platform and a dedicated mobile application, that feature a “Bills Tracker” tool that will help Nigerians monitor how proposed laws move through parliament in real time.
The library will provide short video explainers, infographics, and audio-visual guides, to make legal language easy to digest for students, professionals, and researchers.
Nwawuba stated that the digital upgrades will also help stop the spread of fake, altered, or unverified legislative documents circulating online.
Speaking at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Osita Ngwu, urged lawmakers to make full use of the digital library and modern tools like AI for research. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, represented by Professor Julius Ihonvbere, added that technology will help preserve Nigeria’s legislative history, though strong cybersecurity measures must guide its adoption.
Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, stressed that as parliamentary records go online, keeping documents authentic and secure from cyber threats remains a top priority.
Once fully deployed, these platforms will allow Nigerians to track and read federal laws directly from their smartphones, making legislative information far more accessible to the public.
