The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has warned all operational commanders to remain completely neutral and avoid taking sides as the 2027 general elections approach.
Bakori gave this strict directive on Monday during a security training for Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical unit heads at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bompai, Kano.
The lecture was designed to prepare senior officers for election security duties as political campaigns begin to heat up across the state.
In a statement released by the spokesperson of the command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police commissioner warned officers against getting involved in partisan politics or compromising the electoral process.
“The Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and actors,” Bakori stated.
He made it clear that any officer caught playing politics or bending the rules will face severe disciplinary action.
Bakori also instructed his commanders to respect human rights and the rule of law while discharging their duties. He added that building community partnerships and gathering local intelligence are key to keeping the state safe.
“Public trust is the cornerstone of effective policing. We must remain professional, respect human rights and the rule of law, and work selflessly to earn the confidence of the people,” he added.
The police urged politicians and their supporters to play by the rules of the Electoral Act, warning that anyone caught disrupting public peace will face the full weight of the law.
