APC demands investigation as youths destroy Tinubu’s posters

Angry youths in Jega, Kebbi State went on a rampage over the weekend, destroying posters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state Governor, Nasir Idris, chanting anti-government slogans.

The incident started on Saturday as a crowd of young people were returning home from a local football match, frustrated by the current economic situation of the country, suddenly began shouting “bamaso,” a Hausa word meaning “we don’t want.”

They directed their anger at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Moving along the major roads in the town, the protesters stoned and tore down APC posters and billboards mounted in strategic locations.

The destruction also spilled over to private property, where the protesters smashed the windscreens of several cars belonging to a local vehicle dealer.

However, security operatives eventually arrived at the scene, scattered the crowd, and brought the situation back under control.

The APC, through its state publicity secretary, Isah Assalafi, has condemned the attack, demanding a full investigation into the incident. He urged security agencies to track down and prosecute the people involved.

“Nobody should be shielded by political affiliation, position or influence,” Assalafi said.

He also called on other political leaders in the state to take responsibility for how their supporters behave and to stick to peaceful politics.
