“He doesn’t need to be in Abuja”,  Presidency defends Tinubu’s extended vacation

The Presidency has dismissed talks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s extended vacation, stating that he is perfectly healthy and can run the country remotely.

Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following talks over the President’s failure to return from his three-week vacation as originally scheduled issued a statement on Sunday to calm the tension.

Onanuga assured Nigerians that the President is hale and hearty and he does not need to sit in an Abuja to do the job Nigerians elected him for.

He stated that the President clearly announced his vacation and properly handed the UNGA assignment to Vice President Kashim Shettima before leaving.

The Presidency also defended Tinubu’s decision to skip the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Onanuga stated that other African leaders, including South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, also missed the UN summit without causing any national uproar back home.

Onanuga accused former Anambra state governor, Peter Obi, of playing politics and causing public uproar.

The Presidency confirmed that Tinubu will be heading home this week to celebrate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and attend a Lagos movie premiere honoring the late democracy hero, MKO Abiola.
