“Focus on workers, stop political fights” – APC Chieftain warns Wike

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain has publicly urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to stop using official project launches to attack political opponents but instead focus on fixing Abuja’s basic amenities and improving workers’ welfare.

Yakubu Sani, founder of the Arewa Mandate Alliance (AMA), spoke to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, where he criticized Wike’s combative approach towards politicians.

He advised the FCT Minister to take lessons from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma who focused on delivering projects and building political support for the President without turning public events into avenues for verbal abuse.

“Every road and bridge commissioned in Abuja should be an opportunity to talk about development, not an occasion to abuse or denigrate perceived obstacles to his unbridled political ambition,” Sani stated.

Sani lauded Wike for his infrastructural development efforts in building roads and bridges across the Federal Capital Territory. However, he stated that physical infrastructure alone cannot sustain a city.

He revealed that residents in major parts of Abuja are currently dealing with erratic water supply, uncollected refuse dumps, and bad traffic caused by reckless parking.

Sani stressed that real urban development requires both functional public institutions and well-cared-for workers. He challenged Wike to shift his attention to human capital:

“You cannot build beautiful roads and bridges and ignore the people who teach our children, treat our sick, and run the machinery of the government. Their welfare should also be a priority”.

Sani advised the FCT Minister to concentrate strictly on the job President Bola Tinubu appointed him to do, instead of clashing with APC governors who are also working toward the President’s 2027 re-election.
