The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old security guard, Godwin Dauda, who allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl and dumped her body in a church well in Suleja.
Police caught Godwin Dauda hiding around Kuje in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday, September 23. According to reports, Dauda, worked at the Apostolic Church in Suleja, ran away immediately after people found the body of the victim at his workplace.
The tragic event happened on September 19, when the victim left her home to attend the birthday party of a relative in the neighborhood but never made it back, which made her family filed a missing person report the following day at the Suleja Police Division.
The search ended when the pastor of the Apostolic Church alerted the authorities about a dead body inside a well on the church grounds. Police officers and Suleja local government officials recovered the body and took it to the Suleja General Hospital, where it was identified as the missing minor.
Niger State Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, told journalists on Friday that the suspect admitted to the crime during questioning that he defiled the girl who later died shortly after and then threw her body into the church well to hide the evidence before escaping to Kuje.
The police has transfer Dauda to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for investigation and prosecution by the court.
