Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a defiant speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, calling delegates who walked out on him “moral cowards” while defending Israel’s military actions.
As Netanyahu stepped up to the podium on Thursday, representatives from several countries left the chamber to protest Israel’s ongoing military operations. The Israeli leader immediately fired back, telling anyone else who wanted to leave to clear the hall as he began his speech.
“If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now,” Netanyahu.
Netanyahu during his speech, justified Israel’s military actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and against Iran. He described the conflicts as a seven-front war for Israel’s survival, stressing that his country is actually fighting on behalf of the free world to stop terrorism.
Netanyahu rejected global accusations that Israel is committing genocide or acting as a colonial power. He also took time to praise the United States President Donald Trump for his tough stance against Iran. He criticized other world leaders and the UN for hypocrisy and what he described as giving in to antisemitism.
Netanyahu, while recalling the words of his late brother who died during a 1976 hostage rescue mission, made Israel’s military stance clear to the assembly by declaring that the country has no other choice but to emerge victorious.
