The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State is set to hold a fresh governorship primary election on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after clearing former minister Professor Isa Ali Pantami and two other aspirants to contest.
The state executive committee cleared Prof. Pantami, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki and Usman Aliyu Garry to take part in the upcoming vote.
The decision comes after a Federal High Court sitting in Gombe cancelled the party’s earlier primary and ordered a repeat vote within one month.
The party state publicity secretary Abdulkadir Ahmed Dukku announced the new schedule in a statement on Friday, informing all card-carrying members and delegates to gather at their ward centers on election day to pick their preferred candidate.
The PDP said it has accepted the court decision in good faith and is currently reviewing all directives from the judge. The party urged party members to avoid public arguments or inflammatory remarks that could inflame violence.
The legal trouble started when Usman Aliyu Garry challenged the initial May 2026 exercise in court, stating that proper procedures were not followed when Pantami was declared candidate. While the court set aside that earlier outcome, it affirmed that Pantami is a valid PDP member and properly joined the party.
