An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of 114 out of 115 financial charges brought against them by the Premier League.
The verdict follows a long running investigation into the financial practices of the club between 2009 and 2018, a period during which City won several league titles and established themselves as a dominant force in English football. Out of all the allegations, only one charge was dismissed.
The Premier League originally charged the club in February 2023 after a four-year probe. The case covered nine seasons and centered on allegations that City failed to provide accurate financial information regarding their revenue, sponsorship deals, and operating costs.
Manchester City have maintained their innocence throughout the investigation. Responding to the findings, a club spokesperson emphasized that the legal process is still far from over.
“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” the spokesperson said
The club at the time this report was published, is planning to lodge an appeal against the ruling of the commission.
The commission is yet to announce possible penalties, which according to reports will be determined in a separate phase of the proceedings.
