The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari to lead its campaign for the 2027 governorship election.
Gambari will serve as the Director-General of the campaign council to coordinate grassroots and statewide election strategy for the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka.
The state’s PDP Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, confirmed the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, that the party finalized it decision during a leadership meeting led by the state chairman, Isa Bawa Adamu.
Gambari, the son of Professor Ibrahim Gambari, who served as Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, ran for the PDP governorship ticket earlier this year. When he lost the primary election to Kawu, rumors circulated that he was upset and might defect. However, he ignored the speculations, stayed loyal to the party, and actively joined its political events.
The PDP believes his professional background makes him the right man for the job to help secure votes from both older voters and young professionals.
“These experiences will be relevant to the coordination of a modern campaign organisation involving people from different backgrounds and generations,” the PDP stated.
Gambari is a US-trained international lawyer with solid private-sector experience in finance, real estate, and entrepreneurship.
This appointment opens the floor for PDP ahead of 2027, as the party is gearing up for what to be a tough contest against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
