Manchester United has started selling preserved pieces of its iconic Old Trafford pitch to fans for £125 each, with the first batch already completely sold out.
Each collectible features a 7x7cm section of real grass taken from the stadium, preserved inside a glass cube and packaged in a sleek black display case.
Groundskeepers harvested the turf during the summer after digging up the Old Trafford pitch down to its foundation for the first time in 14 years. The overhaul was designed to improve field drainage and player safety, but rather than throw the old grass away, the club turned it into official memorabilia.
The club has also spent £63.5m acquiring land around the stadium as part of early preparations for a proposed new home expected to cost over £2bn.
On its official store, the club described the turf cubes as a “priceless memento” that allows supporters to keep iconic matchday memories alive.
“Wins and losses, successes and failures, highs and lows. We’ve seen it all. Now, supporters can own a piece of the pitch”, the club said in a statement on its website.
The unusual sale comes as the club navigates a tough financial stretch. In its latest financial report for the 2025-26 season, Manchester United recorded a record revenue of £677.6m, but still posted a pre-tax loss of £43m while overall debt remained above £1bn.
