The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now the official platform for the opposition coalition. For the first time, former rivals are sharing a single political roof.

However, internal friction is already visible. A proposed Obi-Kwankwaso joint ticket is reportedly being arranged by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to prevent Atiku Abubakar from securing the presidential slot for the opposition.

According to reports, Obasanjo is focused on persuading Kwankwaso to accept the Vice-Presidential slot behind Obi to secure a unified front.

The challenge is, who will win the major slot?.

The same pattern repeated itself during the 2023 alliance talks.

In 2023, the combined votes of Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso far exceeded President Tinubu’s total votes.

Unlike the 2023 cycle, the ADC plans to hold a competitive primary, which will be a test of the regional influence and financial muscle of the candidates. The opposition hopes to prevent the splitting effect that defined the last election, by uniting under the ADC.
