‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid a tribute to his predecessor, the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, at the official presentation of the book, “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari”, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

President Tinubu described Buhari as a leader whose legacy was defined by integrity, humility, and disciplined service, assuring the nation that he would sustain these principles.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, served as the president of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023. President Tinubu’s remarks were delivered at the launch of the biography authored by Dr. Charles Omole.

Tinubu recalled his political relationship with Buhari, which culminated in the 2015 election victory by the All Progressives Congress (APC) coalition that unseated the incumbent government for the first time in democratic history of the country. He stated that the book launch is not just a memorial, but a moment for reflecting on the values necessary for nation-building.

President Tinubu stated that Buhari taught Nigerians that public office is a sacred trust and not a personal windfall, and that the true measure of a leader is what persists when the sirens fall silent.

‎Tinubu stated that the pillars of Buhari legacy are known for humility, security, visionary infrastructure development, like railways and roads, social justice and targeted social investments.

‎That is why even those who disagreed with him often acknowledged his honesty – Tinubu

However, critics stated that his administration resulted in the rise in Nigeria’s debt profile, the persistent economic struggles (high inflation and unemployment), and the deterioration of internal security.
