President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) 2025 in Governance and Security Reform on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.
The award recognizes the reforms Lawal’s administration has implemented across key sectors, including civil service restructuring and security enhancement, in the banditry-plagued state.
The award was presented on behalf of the President by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the NEAPS 2025 dinner held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
Governor Lawal, since assuming his position as the Executive Governor of the state, pledged to rescue, rebuild and to address the public service debt and escalating security challenges in the state.
Governor Lawal was honored for prioritizing workers’ welfare, including clearing an inherited N15 billion in gratuities, a 13-year backlog owed to retired civil servants, within his first two years.
His administration was known for the increase in workers’ minimum wage from N7,000 to N70,000 and the introduction of a 13th-month salary.
The Governor was commended for establishing the Community Protection Guards and providing substantial logistical support including operational vehicles, equipment, and fuel to federal security agencies to tackle banditry in the state.
