President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Presidential Villa on Monday, hours after meeting with a delegation of six All Progressives Congress (APC) governors.

The meetings at the State House come amid speculation that Governor Fubara, who has been embroiled in a protracted feud with FCT Minister and former mentor Nyesom Wike, is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Details of the discussion between President Tinubu and Governor Fubara were not disclosed, as the Governor declined to speak with State House correspondents after the meeting.

Governor Fubara has recently maintained a distance from all PDP meetings and activities since his crisis with Minister Wike escalated. The speculation increased last week when the 16 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly,  who are loyal to Wike, officially defected from the PDP to the APC. Meanwhile, the PDP has vowed to challenge the legitimacy of these defections in court.

‎Earlier on Monday, President Tinubu met privately with six APC governors, including , Usman Ododo of Kogi state, Umar Namadi of  Jigawa state, Monday Okpebholo of Edo state, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti state, Nasir Idris of Kebbi state and Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto state.
