The Presidency has asked citizens to monitor and document violations of President Bola Tinubu’s executive order withdrawing police escorts from Very Important Persons (VIPs).

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, confirmed that the government is encouraging Nigerians to capture photo or video evidence of unauthorized police escorts to ensure compliance with the directive. The order aims to redirect over 11,000 police personnel back to core policing duties.

If you identify a celebrity, a private sector person, or any individual who has police against the executive order of the president, as much as you can, capture evidence, whether a photograph or video – Bwala

The Presidency clarified that the withdrawal is not all-encompassing. Key government officials who require protection will still receive security personnel, but these must be drawn from other agencies, specifically the State Security Service (SSS) or the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), not the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

‎Bwala stated that any appointed official who flouts the order is violating the Nigerian Constitution and will face the full wrath of the law.
