Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded to the criticism over his sons accompanying him on official trips, emphasizing they are not part of government delegations and did not benefit from public money.

‎The controversy arose after Wike was pictured with his sons during a summit in Dubai and at various FCT project commissioning events, which was reported by Dawn Herald. Critics questioned the appropriateness of their presence and alleged misuse of government resources.

‎Wike clarified in a Monday interview that his sons traveled at their own expense and were not formally included in any official government delegation.

What law says my sons should not travel?.Let them show where the FCT paid even ₦1 for my children. Did they sign any official document? What is the offence?

The Minister emphasized the educational benefit behind the trips, explaining that his sons, both holders of master’s degrees, are gaining exposure to different cultures and learning about governance processes.

Born out of Rivers State, Wike also addressed speculation about grooming his sons for political careers.

My first son is a lawyer. He said he doesn’t want to practise; he wants to be a farmer. My second son holds a master’s degree in Economics from King’s College. He wants to go into real estate. I’m grateful to have children who bring me peace, not problems. If they were out there causing trouble, the same people criticising me now would be asking where I went wrong – Wike

The Minister insists on his right to travel with his children and looks forward to focusing on his duties without distraction.
