Heavily armed bandits led by a notorious warlord known as Babaro have reportedly taken over Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State, triggering widespread panic and displacement among residents.

The attack has left the region in a state of fear as many civilians have either fled or remain trapped in their communities.

Security expert Bakatsine disclosed the development via a post on social media platform X, stating that several people have been killed or kidnapped during the violent incursion. “BREAKING: Bandits led by feared warlord, Babaro seize control of Kankara LGA, Katsina State. Farming banned from Marabar Kankara to Yantumaki, dozens killed/kidnapped, healthcare collapsed. Residents beg Gov Dikko Radda & FG for urgent intervention,” he wrote.

The situation has disrupted daily life, with farming activities banned across a wide stretch from Marabar Kankara to Yantumaki. Residents say local healthcare services have completely broken down, and fear of further attacks has forced many to abandon their lands and livelihoods.

Kankara has been a recurring target of armed violence and kidnappings in recent years. As of press time, neither state authorities nor federal security agencies have issued an official response regarding the latest development.
