Troops of 17 Brigade, under Operation Fasan Yamma at Forward Operating Base Kurfi in Katsina State, eliminated eight terrorists on Wednesday during a fierce encounter along the Kurfi-Batsari Road. The operation disrupted the terrorists’ plans, showcasing the military’s resolve to combat insecurity in the region.
According to a statement by Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the troops engaged the terrorists in a prolonged duel, resulting in significant casualties on the enemy’s side. The military recovered five AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the scene.
One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and was promptly evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment. Kangye noted that the situation in the area remains calm, with the troops maintaining high morale and operational efficiency following the successful engagement.
The Defence Headquarters commended the bravery and professionalism of the soldiers involved in the operation. Kangye reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians, emphasizing ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities across the country.
The operation has bolstered local confidence in Katsina, where residents have faced persistent security challenges. The military’s swift action along the Kurfi-Batsari Road underscores its determination to restore peace in the troubled region.
