Manchester City completed the €55 million ($62 million) signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan on June 11, 2025, strengthening their squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. The 26-year-old Netherlands international signed a five-year contract after passing a medical on June 8.

Reijnders, who scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 36 Serie A matches last season, was named Serie A’s Best Midfielder for 2024/25. He joined Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for €20 million and now fills a critical midfield role for City following Kevin De Bruyne’s departure to Al-Nassr. His versatility, work rate, and ability to play as a No. 6, 8, or 10 align with Pep Guardiola’s tactical demands, making him a key addition for the Premier League champions.

The transfer, finalized after weeks of negotiations, positions City to debut Reijnders in their Club World Cup opener against Wydad AC on June 18 in the United States. The deal includes add-ons and reflects City’s strategy to refresh their squad after a fourth-place Premier League finish last season exposed midfield vulnerabilities. Reijnders, who has 14 caps for the Netherlands, expressed excitement about joining “the best team in the world” and working under Guardiola.

Club officials and fans are optimistic about Reijnders’ impact, with sporting director Txiki Begiristain praising his “dynamic energy and technical quality.” The signing, announced on City’s official channels, has generated buzz on social media, with supporters eager to see Reijnders integrate alongside stars like Erling Haaland and Rodri for the upcoming global tournament.
