NAFDAC seized counterfeit toothpaste, spaghetti, and other products worth N47 million in Niger State’s Suleja market, targeting illegal trade.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) confiscated counterfeit and unregistered products valued at over N47 million from Ibrahim Babangida International Market in Suleja, Niger State, on Monday, May 12, 2025. The operation, led by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team, targeted fake toothpaste, foreign spaghetti, and other substandard goods.

The agency also sealed a warehouse stocking banned monosodium glutamate (MSG), with several shops now under investigation. NAFDAC’s North-Central Zonal Director, Mrs. Josephine Dayilim, said the raid followed intelligence reports, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to eradicating harmful products that threaten public health.

Items seized included unregistered cosmetics and food products falsely claiming NAFDAC approval. The agency urged consumers to verify product authenticity by checking registration numbers and expiry dates before purchase.

NAFDAC vowed to continue its crackdown, with ongoing investigations to trace the supply chain and prosecute those involved in the illicit trade.
