The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has seized approximately 3,180,000 capsules suspected to be Pregabalin in the Sabon Gari area of Fagge Local Government Area.

The seizure occurred just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially inaugurated the Rapid Response Squad of the agency. The operatives acted on intelligence received through the Task Force Command and Call Centre.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary of the agency’s Media and Publicity Committee, Lamara Garba, the squad searched for a residential apartment at No. 13 Apple Avenue, Normansland, Sabon Gari. During the operation, the operatives recovered the suspected illicit drugs and arrested a 34-year-old man identified as Gregory Ogbuji. The suspect, linked to SEEMARK PHARMA LTD, has been charged under Section 249 of the Penal Code, while another suspect connected to the operation remains at large.

The Chairman of the Task Force, Muhuyi Rimin Gado, described the recovery as a significant early result for the Rapid Response Squad. He emphasized the importance of intelligence-led enforcement and effective communication with the public.

“Pregabalin has emerged as one of the most widely abused drugs in Kano State. Its operational experience indicates that approximately eight out of every 10 drug-related operations involve suspects dependent on or abusing Pregabalin”, Gado.

Gado warned individuals and groups involved in the illicit drug trade to desist, assuring residents that the Task Force would continue taking firm action against offenders.

He also commended the public for their support and urged residents to continue providing credible information on criminal activities.
