The Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Natasha Osawaru, has ignited debate across social media platforms on her marital status after publicly dropping the surname of her celebrity husband, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba.
The lawmaker omitted the music star’s name while introducing herself during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Representing the Egor constituency, Osawaru officially identified herself using only her maiden name before contributing to a debate on a bill designed to strengthen emergency response operations in the state. Her official nameplate at the assembly complex also displayed the Osawaru surname, removing Idibia from her name.
“Mr Speaker, my name is Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, member representing the very great people of Egor Constituency and, by God’s grace, the minority leader of this House. Mr Speaker, as we speak, we have no strong, legally backed state agency that can respond proactively. Hence, this bill is timely.”
This development contrasted with her plenary address in April 2025, where she officially introduced herself with the Idibia surname. Her plenary appearance comes amid ongoing controversies about her relationship with the veteran singer.
Talks about a possible rift intensified recently after her absence from 2Baba’s 51st birthday celebration and album listening party in Lagos. The couple, who tied the knot in July 2025, also unfollowed each other on social media shortly after a viral video captured them in a heated exchange at an Abuja nightclub in August.
