The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially disowned a fraudulent document circulating online claiming to be a special announcement regarding governorship candidates in six states.

The fake publication purportedly listed candidates for Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe, and Kano states ahead of the 2027 general elections. The commission stated that the document did not originate from its offices and warned the public against sharing the misleading information.

The commission urged Nigerians to completely disregard the fraudulent publication and to always verify electoral updates through its designated websites and help lines.

“The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the publication is FAKE and did not originate from INEC. The Commission further wishes to clarify that any information suggesting that INEC has issued a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the aforementioned states is false”, INEC.

This development comes just days after the commission released the final official registry of cleared candidates for the February 2027 governorship elections, with the authentic list igniting debates following the unexpected omission of major party candidates in Ogun and Gombe states.
