The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has officially sworn in 68 legal practitioners into the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
The swearing-in took place on Monday during the official commencement of the 2026/2027 Legal Year ceremony. The new inductees, comprising 67 courtroom advocates and a single legal academic, were previously approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) during its 174th plenary session.
A statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola, confirmed the breakdown of the recipients. Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri emerged as the only academic on the list, recognized for his immense contributions to legal scholarship.
Before conferring the title, the LPPC directed the successful applicants to complete a mandatory induction programme. The committee also mandated the new SANs to ensure total compliance with paragraph 25(1) of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and Rule 39(3) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023.
The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee strictly warned the newly elevated silks against publishing congratulatory adverts, threatening severe sanctions for violators.
