Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have apprehended a suspected terrorist collaborator and successfully cleared multiple explosive threats during recent clearance operations. The joint operations also led to the recovery of dozens of rustled livestock after a gun duel with terrorists.
Acting on credible intelligence, Sector One operatives arrested the suspect, identified as Yusuf Adamu, on Tuesday at Kuyello in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
During preliminary interrogations, Adamu confessed to actively aiding the criminal syndicate. He admitted to recording a video of a female captive being sexually assaulted by the terrorists to force her family into paying a ransom. According to military authorities, the terrorists murdered the victim after the ransom was delivered, while the suspect was paid N50,000 for his role.
In a related development, Sector Two operatives, working alongside the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, located and neutralised three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by terrorists along the Magami-Dansadau road in Zamfara State.
The troops also intercepted armed terrorists moving stolen livestock between the Kombo and Gurusu villages in Zamfara. The criminal elements bowed to the superior firepower of the military and fled in disarray, abandoning 14 camels, 19 cows, and 40 sheep.
Confirming the developments in a press statement, the Joint Task Force Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the principal suspect, Yusuf Iliya Sani, and other fleeing members of the network.
